This dining table was built from the burnt remains of oak trees milled after the original homesite was destroyed by wildfire in 2017. The table extends from 7 feet to 11 feet in length after inserting additional leaves.

After much historical research, I designed and built this sailor’s sea chest with a few added features. The box is made of aromatic camphor and the base is teak; both woods were traditionally used for their rot and insect resistance. The handles, called “beckets”, are woven from tarred hemp marline and seven different knot tying techniques are employed in the making process.
